Remembering John Lennon

John Lennon was assassinated on December 8, 1980. He may have had his inner demons resulting from a tumultuous childhood, and to say that he acted weird is an understatement. He was a clown, a political activist, a drunk, a great musician, and at the very end, a man who, by most accounts, was trying to raise a family and mend fences with his first child, Julian.

Whatever one thinks of John Lennon, he was for peace, and that covers a multitude of sins in today’s world. I wonder what he would have said about today’s political climate or the War in Iraq. We’ll never know. I do know he was hounded by J. Edgar Hoover and the F.B.I. for four years because Tricky Dick thought he might upset the electoral apple cart—Nixon, the man who would be king. Well, Dick, who stands higher today, you or John Lennon?

I will always remember seeing The Beatles' debut on The Ed Sullivan Show in February of 1964. And I won’t ever forget John Lennon, whose music pulled me through some pretty tough times.
Thanks for the music.

That man would have produced so much more... had he but lived to a ripe old age.

If there was ever evidence that a human can contain a soul, I think he was the ebodiment of that.

Imagine...

Scott, I think the surviving Beatles are correct. If Lennon had lived, they would have gotten back together at some point. At Yoko's request, Lennon used to consult psychics. He would ask whether or not he and his mates would reunite. If they had ...

It's a real testament to the man to say his music pulled you through some tough times.

Great musicians eh? What would we do without them...

Lane, life without music would be deplorable. I was a big folkie at first and then moved to rock. These days, I still listen to the Beatles, Dylan, PP&M, Judy Collins, and a thousand others, although I like classical from time to time. Like Mr. Rogers, it calms me down :)

Music is an essential part of my life too. Whether it is to calm me down or to give me inspiration...
And J. Lennon has definitely contributed to the overall music of mankind.

You were a big folkie?

I used to be the Site manager for the Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival.

Lots of good Folk, as we used to say...

szelsofa, thanks as always for stopping by. I think music is in our molecules, and when the right song or piece enters our ears and brains, those molecules dance and resonate.

scott, yep, I was a folkie, and still am. I even post at the PP&M website occasionally. They still sound good, and have integrity.

How ironic, I was just thinking of the Beatles this morning. No music continues to move me, years and years later, like theirs.

... and the Beatles just continue to grow more popular, and with all age groups. I love 'em.
